History
“Pediatric Allergy and Asthma Academy Association” was established in Istanbul in 1996 under the name of “Pediatric Respiratory Tract Diseases’ Association”.
Since its establishment, our association has been involved in various activities regarding allergic diseases in children.
The association has held congresses on Pediatric Allergy and Respiratory Diseases 7 times in various cities of Turkey during the years of 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, and 2012. These congresses were held with the participation of an average of 300-400 physicians. Since 2012, CAAAD congresses have been held annually.
Also, since the association’s establishment, symposiums were held in different cities of Turkey, where various topics have been discussed with physicians, regarding Pediatric Allergy and Pediatric Respiratory Diseases (bronchial asthma, wheezing babies – wheezy infant, food allergies, drug allergies, allergic rhinitis, atopic dermatitis, urticaria angioedema, immunotherapy in allergic diseases, approach to anaphylaxis, etc).
In 1999, members of the association and physicians working in the Pediatric Allergy Departments of various universities in Turkey (Istanbul University Istanbul Medical Faculty, Istanbul University Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty, Marmara University Medical Faculty, Uludag University Faculty of Medicine, Trakya University Faculty of Medicine, Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine, Ege University Faculty of Medicine, Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine) published the “National Asthma Diagnosis and Treatment Consensus Report” for physicians, and the “Family Guideline for Children with Allergic Asthma” for patients.
Every summer, including 2008,“Asthmatic Children's Summer Camp” has been organized in Iznik district by the association since its establishment in 1996. About 80 children with asthma attend these camps for a week, which are held under the responsibility of faculty members of the association, and other than activities such as swimming, tennis, basketball and volleyball the camp also provides information about asthma in classes that are held every day during the week. These camps in which family members are not admitted provide skills to asthamic patients to control their diseases by themselves, by educating them about asthma and exercising them. The organization of Asthma Camps has started again in 2019.
Our "Pediatric Allergy and Asthma Academy Association", whose work has spread all over Turkey, is still the only organization operating in the field of "Pediatric Allergy" in Turkey.
Our Association's Board of Directors consists of 9 people.
In accordance with the charter of our association, the presidency is held for a period of 2 years.
